REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto called the 2026 Chinese New Year celebration that takes place alongside Ramadan a real proof of the harmony of religious and national life in Indonesia. The message was delivered via video greeting at the height of the Chinese Harmony Archipelago celebration of Chinese New Year 2577 Kongzili, Saturday (28/2/2026) evening.
The president said the momentum reflected Indonesia's identity as a composite nation capable of living together in differences. This year's Chinese celebration is also considered to have national significance because it strengthens the spirit of brotherhood and unity.

“The Chinese moon is present side by side with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. This is the real face of Indonesia. Different but get along well. Diverse but one goal,” Prabowo said.
He insists that the Chinese month is not only a religious celebration, but also a national momentum that reflects the value of togetherness, togetherness, and solidarity among the children of the nation. The festival shows Indonesia was built by all elements of society from different tribal, religious, and cultural backgrounds.

The Nusantara Lunar Harmony Celebration takes place simultaneously in a number of cities, including Medan, Palembang, Batam, Bogor, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, Pontianak, Singkawang, Makassar, and Manado. The activities feature cultural diversity, community participation, and cross-community spaces.
Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar considers the Lunar celebration that takes place during Ramadan to be a strong symbol of unity among religious people in Indonesia. The festival presents a space for cross-cultural, cross-religious, and cross-generational encounters.
“The glowing red lanterns of China, the cultural parade, the SME market, as well as the various acculturation shows that we are witnessing today, are wonderful symbols of how these two great traditions, Lunar and Ramadan, can complement each other in a spirit of togetherness,” Nasaruddin said.
He added that the Chinese Harmony of the Archipelago is a means of strengthening brotherhood, fostering tolerance, and strengthening the value of gotong royong among the community. The momentum is also expected to encourage younger generations to get to know and love the national cultural wealth.
