Banda Aceh: State-owned electricity company PT PLN has fully restored the power distribution system in Aceh following devastating floods and landslides that also struck North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
“Aceh’s electricity system has fully recovered. All substations are operating normally, supported by backup generators and transmission lines that are back in service,” PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said in a written statement on Sunday, as quoted by Antara on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Prasodjo said PLN has completed repairs on 20 substations across Aceh and will now focus on the next recovery phase by restoring electricity supply to isolated areas still affected by flooding.
He emphasized that power restoration will be carried out gradually and safely, particularly in locations where floodwaters have not fully receded.
“Following government directives, we are accelerating post-disaster electricity recovery to ensure residents can safely access power again,” he said.
The restoration of the Nagan Raya steam power plant played a key role in stabilizing Aceh’s electricity supply. The facility now has adequate backup systems to support province-wide distribution.
PLN has also optimized the operation of the Nagan–Sigli transmission line, strengthening the Aceh electricity grid.
Meanwhile, the company has restored the Arun–Bireuen and Pangkalan Brandan–Langsa transmission lines, which form the backbone of the Aceh–Sumatra interconnection, after they were damaged by floods and landslides.
PLN reported that at least five 150-kilovolt high-voltage overhead line towers along the Langsa–Pangkalan Brandan route collapsed, while seven others sustained damage. Access limitations caused by road blockages further complicated repair efforts.
According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of Sunday, floods and landslides had claimed 1,090 lives, left 186 people missing, and affected millions across 52 districts and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
