Indonesia Ranked Among World’s Safest Countries in Gallup 2025 Report: Police Chief

Jakarta: Indonesia has been listed among the world’s safest countries in Gallup’s 2025 Global Safety Report, ranking 19th in the Law and Order Index and 25th globally for the proportion of citizens who feel safe walking alone at night.

National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the recognition reflects growing public trust in law enforcement and the overall security situation in the country. He delivered the remarks during a year-end briefing at Polri Headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to the report, which surveyed around 145,000 adults across 144 countries and territories in 2024, Indonesia scored 89 on the Law and Order Index.

The score places Indonesia ahead of several developed nations, including Japan and the United States, which recorded scores of 86 and 84 respectively, Listyo said.

In terms of perceived personal safety, 83 percent of respondents in Indonesia said they feel safe walking alone at night, ranking the country 25th worldwide. Singapore topped the list with a score of 98 percent.

“This data indicates that Indonesia enjoys a strong sense of safety and security, which is directly felt by the community,” Listyo said, quoted from Antara, Tuesday 30 December 2025.

He also cited domestic survey results to underscore public confidence in the police force. A poll released in November 2025 by the Kompas Research and Development Division ranked Polri among the top three most trusted public institutions in Indonesia.

According to the survey, Polri placed first as the most trusted law enforcement institution, with a public approval rating of 78.2 percent.

“These achievements serve as motivation for our personnel to continue improving professionalism, accountability, and service to the public,” Listyo said.

Despite the positive results, he cautioned against complacency and stressed the importance of continuous evaluation and reform to maintain public trust.

“The high level of trust is valuable capital for Polri to keep strengthening its role in protecting and serving the people,” he added.
