Geneva: Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said the government continues to strengthen efforts to realize social justice under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, highlighting expanded access to food, education, healthcare, and housing.

Speaking at the 61st High-Level Segment of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday February, 23, 2026, Sugiono emphasized that Indonesia’s national transformation is rooted in fulfilling fundamental rights.

“Under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, Indonesia continues to pursue national transformation to achieve social justice,” he said, quoted from Indonesia Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement.

Sugiono noted that respect for human rights begins with everyday life—ensuring children can study without hunger, communities live in safety, and citizens have opportunities to pursue their aspirations.

He underscored that expanding access to nutritious food, healthcare services, housing, education, and economic empowerment is not merely a matter of public policy, but a concrete realization of basic human rights.

“To expand access to nutritious food, healthcare, housing, education, and economic empowerment is not just about policymaking. It is about delivering fundamental rights,” he said.

To implement these human rights programs, the government has intensified coordination among ministries and agencies while strengthening accountability mechanisms.

Sugiono added that Indonesia continues to engage constructively with national human rights institutions to reinforce its Sixth National Human Rights Action Plan.

“Indonesia works closely with national human rights institutions, fostering constructive collaboration in our sustained efforts to promote and protect human rights, in line with national priorities and international norms,” he said.

He also highlighted recent legal reforms, including revisions to the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code, aimed at strengthening the rule of law and balancing order, freedom, and prosperity.

On the same occasion, Sugiono expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Indonesia to serve as President of the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2026, affirming the country’s commitment to advancing meaningful progress in human rights protection.
