REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal said the tradition of Lebaran Topat is not just an indigenous ritual, but also a great potential to boost the tourism sector in Bumi Sasak.
“This is not just tradition, but spiritual reflection that strengthens the human relationship with God and others,” Iqbal said while attending the Lebaran Topat celebration at the Senggigi Amphitheater area, West Lombok, on Saturday (29/3/2026).

The Governor appreciated the consistency of the community and local government in maintaining Lebaran Topat as a distinctive Sasak cultural identity. According to him, the celebration held every 8 Shawal is not only the closing of the Eid series, but also a meaningful momentum.
The philosophy of ketupat with its four sides, Lebaran, Luberan, Leburan, and Labur, symbolizes the perfection of worship, the acceptance of sharing, mutual forgiveness, and the return to self-sanctity.

From early morning, thousands of people crowded the Senggigi area wearing the best clothes and bringing dulang ketupat and typical dishes. Domestic and foreign tourists also dissolve in the atmosphere, witnessing first-hand the unique traditions that exist only in Lombok.
“Lebaran Topat is not just a traditional celebration, but a cultural feast that glues togetherness, strengthens identity, and becomes NTB's flagship tourism magnet,” the Governor stressed.
West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini added that Lebaran Topat is an ancestral legacy that continues to live in the pulse of Sasak society. This year, the festivities appear more lively with various cultural attractions, creative parades, traditional musical accompaniment, and the participation of tourism actors such as hotels and resorts in Senggigi, without losing the essence of tradition.
Meanwhile, amid the lively Lebaran Topat, academician of Mpu Kuturan Singaraja State Hindu Religious Institute, Dr. I Putu Mardika, assessed Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas) in favor of character education of children in the digital age.
“This regulation is the country's response to the changing cultural landscape due to the massive penetration of digital technologies,” Mardika said in Singaraja on Saturday.
