Jakarta: In addition to targeting one Indonesian National Armed Forces soldier, the Israeli attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters in Lebanon also injured three other Indonesian National Armed Forces personnel.
"The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deepest condolences for the loss of one Indonesian peacekeeper and the injuries of three other personnel," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, as quoted by platform X, Monday, March 30, 2026.
According to reports, the personnel were on duty when an indirect artillery attack hit the Indonesian contingent near the Adchit Al Qusayr position on March 29, 2026.
"The incident occurred amid reports of exchanges between the Israeli military and armed groups in southern Lebanon. Indonesia strongly condemns this incident and is conducting a thorough and transparent investigation," the statement added.
"Indonesia deeply mourns this loss. We pay our highest respects to the fallen personnel for their dedication and devotion to international peace and security," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed its prayers and sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for a full recovery for the injured personnel.
The Indonesian government is working with UNIFIL to ensure the prompt repatriation of the remains and to provide the best possible medical care for the injured.
"The safety and security of UN peacekeeping personnel must always be fully respected, in accordance with international law. Any action that endangers peace is unacceptable and disrupts joint efforts to maintain peace and stability," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
Indonesia reiterates its strong condemnation of Israel's attacks in southern Lebanon and urges all parties to uphold Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, halt attacks that endanger civilians and infrastructure, and return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and achieve peace.
Furthermore, Indonesia continues to coordinate closely with the UN and relevant authorities and will continue to monitor developments in the situation closely.
