Jakarta: Jakarta celebrates its 499th anniversary today. As Southeast Asia’s largest city and Indonesia's economic hub, it currently ranks 71st in the Global Cities Index, up from 74th.
On Metro TV's Selamat Pagi Indonesia, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reflected on his attendance at the World Mayors Forum.
“I was invited to Singapore to attend the World Mayors Forum. Approximately 150 mayors from major cities around the world were in attendance,” he said.
Jakarta continues to play a pivotal role as Indonesia’s economic center and seat of government. With its vast potential, the capital is projected to rank amongst the world’s top 50 global cities by 2030. In a bid to strengthen its global competitiveness, the Jakarta Provincial Government has launched the Jakarta RISE 20 initiative.
“Whether we like it or not, Jakarta must continue to reinvent itself. It must embark on new, promising initiatives, and compete with major cities around the world,” Pramono remarked.
The initiative aims to propel Jakarta into the world’s top 20 global cities by 2045, coinciding with Indonesia’s centennial and the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.
Through transformation across various sectors, Jakarta is expected to strengthen its position as a competitive, modern, and sustainable global city.
