Jakarta: Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Sudaryono has pledged to ensure food safety in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program after hundreds of students from SMK Negeri 6 Semarang were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning.

“As the new Head of BGN, I have zero tolerance for food poisoning, corruption, and ‘hanky-panky’ practices; these things will no longer be overlooked,” he said in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

Sudaryono stressed the need for all Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs) to strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent further food poisoning incidents.

“SOPs must be followed. Leadership must take responsibility. Staff must be held accountable,” he said.

Sudaryono added that SPPG heads must take decisive action against staff members who fail to comply with hygiene and food safety procedures.

“Staff who, for example, refuse to wash their hands or fail to use gloves and masks, must be dismissed. We have to be firm about this. There can be no more tolerance (for such negligence),” he said.
