Government Accelerates Disaster Recovery in Aceh Ahead of Ramadan: Minister

Banda Aceh: Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said the government is accelerating recovery efforts in areas affected by floods and landslides in Aceh Province, particularly as communities prepare for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

“The government continues to expedite disaster response and recovery in Aceh, especially as affected communities approach Ramadan,” Pratikno said on Thursday.

He made the remarks after attending a disaster management coordination meeting at the Aceh Governor’s Office, which was also attended by Deputy Governor Fadhlullah and National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head Suharyanto.

The meeting brought together members of the Aceh Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), heads of provincial government agencies, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and representatives of civil society organizations.

Pratikno said the discussions produced a number of recommendations and highlighted significant progress in disaster handling across the province.

“This progress reflects the collective efforts of all parties involved. We appreciate the contributions of the local government, the military, the police, civil society organizations, and everyone who has supported disaster management efforts,” he said.

He stressed the importance of accelerating the construction of temporary housing to ensure displaced residents have adequate shelter while awaiting permanent relocation.

“Temporary housing construction has begun. In addition, essential needs must be ensured as Ramadan approaches, including the rehabilitation of mosques and prayer rooms to support community worship,” Pratikno said.

He added that the central government will continue coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies to fast-track recovery and ensure effective monitoring of post-disaster handling in Aceh.

“We will continue to coordinate closely across ministries and agencies to support the recovery of disaster-affected areas,” Pratikno said.
