REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Prabowo Subianto insists Indonesia has never pledged or committed to contribute $1 billion (about Rp 17 trillion) to the Peace Council or Board of Peace (BoP) sponsored by U.S. President Donald Trump.
“So, we never said that we want to contribute $1 billion,” Prabowo said in an interview received in Jakarta on Sunday (March 22, 2026).

The president also reiterated that no financial commitment has ever been promised to the United States regarding Indonesia's participation in the BoP. This, he added, is evident from Indonesia's absence from previous meetings of founding donors.
“No, never. In a meeting in Washington on February 19, it was a meeting of founding donors. They each contribute, there may be a larger one, but Indonesia is not there. Because from the beginning, when asked, I was not committed to money at all,” Prabowo said.
.rec-desc {padding: 7px !important;}The president said Indonesia was ready to be part of the peace council, but only through the contribution of peacekeepers to safeguard Gaza's citizens, not funds. “We declare ready to send peacekeepers as needed,” he said.
Nevertheless, Prabowo said the government will keep abreast of future developments. When the rebuilding of Gaza begins, Indonesia's possible contribution will be considered.
“If the ceasefire is successful and construction begins, it is not impossible for Indonesia to participate. We have Baznas, and previously we have also built a hospital and various other aids there,” he explained.
However, Prabowo reiterated that there was no commitment to pay dues as a BoP member. “There is no commitment at all,” the president said.
Earlier, a Bloomberg report on Sunday (January 18, 2026), citing the council's draft charter, said Donald Trump required a payment of $1 billion to members of the Peace Council in order to become a permanent member of the organization.
Each member state of the Peace Council gets an allotment of participation for three years from the entry into force of the charter, with a possible extension by the Chairman of the Council, namely Donald Trump.
However, the three-year membership limit is waived for “member states that contribute more than $1 billion in cash to the Peace Council within the first year of the charter's entry into force,” another section of the draft document said.
