Jakarta: Indonesia and China will focus on the economic partnerships discussion at the first Comprehensive Strategic Dialog (CSD) of both countries in Jakarta, Friday, August 21, 2026.
East Asia Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Arifianto Sofiyanto stated that CFD encompasses five pillars of cooperation, those are politic, economy, inter-community relations, maritime, and security. However, both countries agree to place greater emphasis on economic partnerships at this meeting.
“For this CSD discussion, it is agreed that it will be emphasized on economic partnership,” said Arifianto at a press briefing in Jakarta, Thursday, August 20, 2026.
Arifianto said the economic focus is directed to strengthen the two countries’ commitment to investment and trade, including strengthening Chinese investment in Indonesia as well as support toward priority sectors of the Indonesian government.
“For economic partnerships maybe the main expected achievement is strengthening both countries’ commitment regarding continued strengthening of two countries’ investment and trade including the strengthening of Chinese investment in Indonesia and also their support towards priority sectors of Indonesian government,” stated Arifianto.
According to Arifianto, CSD is a strategic-level dialog with partner countries that have a relationship in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) level. Indonesia and China have five pillars of cooperation in that partnership, meanwhile the weight of each pillar in CSD can be adjusted based on an agreement of both parties.
In that first CSD, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Wang Yi will be accompanied by several vice minister-level officials. Indonesia also invites vice ministers of the economic field as the discussion partners.
Besides CSD, Indonesia and China are also scheduled to hold the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Minister’ Dialog or 2+2 Meeting. Arifianto said that forum will focus more on political, defense, and security issues. China Highlights Development and Modernization Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China Lin Jian said the first CSD of Indonesia and China will discuss the synergy in the development strategies of the two countries, concrete steps to deepen the Indonesia-China community with a shared future, and modernization of both countries.
“At the first Indonesia-China Comprehensive Strategic Development Mechanism Conference, both parties will focus on a better synergy between development strategy, exploring concrete steps to deepen the China-Indonesia community with a shared future,” stated Lin Jian at press conference in Beijing, as reported by Antara.
He continued, both parties will strive to enhance their own modernization.
Lin Jian said the CSD and 2+2 meeting will discuss cooperation in the development and security sector. According to him , both countries have to enhance strategic communication, solidarity, and collaboration as fellow major developing countries and big countries in the Global South.
Lin Jian continued, China will cooperate with Indonesia to ensure the success of both countries and encourage the development and security cooperation.
