Jakarta: State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the Indonesian government is finalizing plans to deploy thousands of troops for a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Gaza Strip under the Board of Peace (BoP).
Although the deployment process is still under discussion, Hadi confirmed that Indonesia is preparing to send around 8,000 personnel.
“The number of personnel we may deploy to Gaza is around 8,000,” Hadi said on Tuesday, quoted from Antara.
He clarified that the exact deployment location has not yet been determined, despite earlier reports suggesting that Indonesian troops would be assigned to Rafah in southern Gaza.
“We have just begun the preparations. Once the arrangements are finalized, we will deploy our peacekeepers to fulfils our commitment,” he said.
Hadi emphasized that Indonesia’s involvement in the Board of Peace reflects its longstanding commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause, particularly efforts to back Palestinian independence and alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza.
Indonesia also expects its participation in the Board of Peace, together with seven other Islamic countries, to help de-escalate tensions and facilitate humanitarian access to the enclave.
“We hope to contribute to reducing the escalation in Gaza so that our brothers and sisters there no longer suffer. We also expect this process to help ensure the delivery of food and humanitarian aid,” he added.
Hadi further confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto has been invited to attend the inaugural summit of the Board of Peace on February 19, 2026, although his attendance has yet to be confirmed.
He noted that Indonesia has not yet paid its financial contribution to the Board of Peace, as the government is still completing the necessary administrative procedures.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry stated that Indonesia’s participation in Gaza, including the planned troop deployment, is solely intended to support Palestine’s recovery and its struggle for independence and sovereignty.
“Every contribution made by Indonesia is based on our commitment to supporting a just and sustainable peace for Palestine in accordance with the two-state solution,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said on Tuesday.
