Denpasar: A Russian citizen, Kseniia Varlamova has gone on trial in Bali on charges related to a hydroponic marijuana cultivation operation at her home in Ubung Kaja, North Denpasar.
During an indictment hearing at the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday 24 Ferbruary 2026, Public Prosecutor I Made Lovi Pusnawan charged Varlamova under multiple provisions of Indonesia’s Narcotics Law and Criminal Code.
“If convicted, she faces a potential life sentence,” according to indictment, as quoted from Antara, Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
The prosecutor alleged that Varlamova conspired to commit narcotics offenses by illegally planting, maintaining, possessing, storing, or controlling Class I narcotics in plant form exceeding one kilogram or more than five plants.
She was arrested by the Bali Regional Police on Oct. 1, 2025, at her residence in Ubung Kaja.
Investigators said she was aware of her husband Nirul Rashim’s activities—he is being tried separately—and had photographed marijuana seedlings inside a hydroponic tent but failed to report them to authorities.
Authorities seized marijuana seeds, dried leaves, and fresh leaves weighing a total of 278.2 grams gross. Police also confiscated 14 live marijuana plants measuring between 15 and 100 centimeters in height, along with 91 seedlings.
Forensic testing confirmed that all seized items were marijuana, classified as a Schedule I narcotic under Indonesian law.
