Jakarta: Indonesia’s Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development, Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, has called for the expansion of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and non-preschool toddlers, collectively referred to as the 3B group.
In a statement issued on Monday, she stressed the need to increase the number of beneficiaries by directing more MBG kitchens, officially known as nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs), to prepare meals specifically for the group.
She said the initiative is important to support President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of achieving a “Golden Indonesia 2045” by preventing stunting during the first 1,000 days of life.
Oka also proposed increasing the frequency of meal distribution for the 3B group from twice a week to daily provision. “Menus should consist of healthier, freshly prepared food and avoid ultra-processed ingredients,” said Oka, as quoted from Antara, Monday, April 6, 2026.
The Ministry of Population and Family Development is responsible for serving the 3B group under the MBG program, as mandated by a presidential regulation (Perpres) issued last year.
Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said in the same statement that the government is preparing a derivative regulation to further refine the implementation of the program for 3B beneficiaries.
“There will be no changes in distribution to the 3B group, as it has been running well. However, improvements are still needed because providing MBG to the 3B group is essential for shaping the future of our children and the nation,” he said.
Hasan also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the quality and governance of SPPGs in response to existing shortcomings.
“As of March 30, 2026, the program has served 61,680,043 people across 38 provinces, supported by 26,066 SPPGs,” he said, adding that 2,162 kitchens had been temporarily suspended for evaluation.
