Jakarta: The Indonesian Embassy in London has officially reported a British national to local police following the circulation of a video showing the disrespectful treatment of the Indonesian flag in front of the embassy building.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the embassy has submitted a formal complaint to British authorities, including the local police and the UK Foreign Office, to pursue further action in accordance with applicable laws and procedures in the United Kingdom.
The incident involved a British adult film actress publicly known as Bonnie Blue, or Tia Billinger, who committed the act on December 15, 2025. The video quickly spread on social media, drawing criticism from Indonesian officials and the public.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said the Indonesian government deeply regretted the act, stressing that the national flag represents Indonesia’s sovereignty, honor, and national identity.
“The Indonesian Embassy in London has coordinated intensively with the central government and relevant authorities in the UK and has submitted an official complaint for further legal action,” Yvonne said in a video statement to the media on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
She emphasized that freedom of expression cannot be used to justify actions that demean another country’s national symbols or violate the principles of mutual respect between nations.
The Foreign Ministry also noted that the same individual had previously faced legal consequences in Indonesia in connection with a separate incident. At the time, she was subjected to sanctions under Indonesian law, including administrative immigration penalties for overstaying her permit, as well as law enforcement measures for other violations.
“Based on immigration authority, the individual has been deported and banned from entering the territory of the Republic of Indonesia for a period of 10 years,” Yvonne said.
The Indonesian government urged the public to respond calmly and responsibly, and to avoid being provoked by social media content that could escalate tensions.
